Michael Etherington-Smith brings a world of experience to Tallahassee.

Michael Etherington-Smith has begun adding his seasoned touch to the Red Hills 3* cross-country course. As designer of the Rolex Kentucky Three Day Event for nineteen years, and of the Sydney and Beijing Olympics cross-country courses plus a number of World Equestrian Games, Mike brings a world of experience to Tallahassee. After retiring from Rolex in 2008, Mike became head of British Eventing, their national federation. He has returned to designing and mentoring US designers to refine their design skills and insight. Mike will mentor David O’Connor, Chef d’Equipe of the U.S. Olympic Team, in the design of the 2* and 1* courses for Red Hills.

The goals of the refinement of the cross-country courses are both to provide the highest caliber competition in the sport appropriate for the time in the eventing calendar and a sophisticated education for both the horse and rider. The path to the very top levels of competition requires continuous schooling of both human and equine competitors. Red Hills strives to offer both.

We are on the right track!
